The God Haters

The God Haters:

Yesterday, on Fox News TV, the host (Britt Hume) illustrated political lies in the current campaign. It was claimed that the VP on the Republican ticket was not making herself available for questions and discussion to journalists, and that this was a clear sign of her unfitness for office. More derogatory words than these were used. Mr. Hume commented with facts that she was making herself available MUCH more so than both members of the opposition, and even more than her presidential running mate. Then, a journalist’s comments were flashed on the screen showing the hate commentary he had written. Now, the kicker: that journalist was Christopher Hitchens.

For some time now in Christian circles, there has been amazement (horror?) at the writings of prominent atheists. They are published, vitriolic and accusatory about Christianity and our God. Nothing new about that. Some refer to the four horsemen of the atheistic apocalypse: Richard Dawkins (The God Delusion), Sam Harris (The End of Faith and Letter to a Christian Nation), Christopher Hitchens (God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything), and a man named Daniel Dennett. Now we understand some of the far-left criticism. It is not about Sarah Palin’s qualifications. It is about her Christianity. These are God Haters. They claim that science must destroy Christianity, that it is God who has a mighty body count in wars, and that the uselessness of prayer by believers is well known. These angry atheistic books have reached best-seller lists for a few years. We can expect more of this in the next two weeks.
